Workshop: The Business of Film and Television Drama

This half-day workshop for the emerging sector will be all about:

• the different sources of finance available for feature filmmaking and what sources have what strings attached
• how to put together the finance plans required by government and other investors, and
• understanding recoupment schedules and how and why returns flow the way they do

The session will include thought-provoking discussion of various research findings including what specific films on Screen Australia’s slate have been the best financial performers.

It will also provide very practical advice; on the dangers of deferring fees for example. The session will be particularly aimed at emerging producers, directors and writers.

Sandy George has tracked Australia’s film and television production industry for a very long time as a journalist and researcher. She was Australian correspondent for Screendaily for two decades, has been editor of local trade magazines, is a former film writer for The Australian and has presented movies on SBS Television.

For the past three years she has been drawing on 10 years worth of Screen Australia data and deals to deliver robust market intelligence. She is regularly hired to host panels and facilitate industry discussions.
