Online Community Guidelines
Our Online Community Guidelines explain how we ensure our social media and online channels are inclusive, welcoming, and safe for everyone.
Effective October 2026
Overview
Screenwest (Australia) Ltd (“Screenwest”) is Western Australia’s screen funding body. We use our social media and online channels to share news, funding opportunities and stories, and to connect with the screen community.
We want these Channels to be inclusive, welcoming and safe for everyone. These Online Community Guidelines (“Guidelines”) explain what we ask of you and how and when we moderate.
Please read these Guidelines together with the Screenwest Terms of Trade and its Glossary of Terms. Capitalised terms have the meaning given in the Glossary.
How to read these Guidelines
- Capitalised terms are defined in the Screenwest Glossary of Terms.
- These Guidelines apply alongside the Terms of Trade.
- These Guidelines apply to everyone who interacts with our Channels.
- Screenwest may update these Guidelines at its discretion.
1. About these Guidelines and who they apply to
“Channels” means Screenwest’s official social media accounts and online community spaces — including Facebook, Instagram and Instagram Threads, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Vimeo, Discord, Twitch and Reddit — and any comments, posts, messages, tags, reactions or other material made on them. This list is not exhaustive and includes any equivalent channels we operate from time to time.
These Guidelines apply to everyone who interacts with our Channels. By accessing or using our Channels, you agree to be bound by these Guidelines and to comply with them.
If you are, or become, an Applicant or Funding Recipient, your conduct on our Channels also forms part of your dealings with Screenwest under the Terms of Trade — in particular, acting in good faith and with integrity, treating Screenwest staff and representatives professionally, courteously and with respect, and remaining in good standing.
2. The spirit of our community
Our Channels work best when everyone helps keep them positive and constructive. We ask you to:
- Be kind and respectful — even when you disagree.
- Be yourself — engage authentically and represent your own views.
- Stay relevant — keep comments on topic.
- Protect privacy — our Channels are public; beyond your account identity, don’t share personal information about yourself or others.
- Respect the law — and each platform’s own rules, which also apply to you.
3. What we expect of you
In using our Channels, you must represent your own views, be courteous and respectful of others, keep your contributions relevant, and act in good faith and with integrity.
You must not:
- Abuse, harass, bully or threaten others, or post offensive, violent or obscene content.
- Vilify or discriminate against, or incite hatred against, any person or group — including on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, gender identity, disability, age or religion.
- Post defamatory, false or unsubstantiated allegations about any person or organisation.
- Share private contact or location details — your own or others’.
- Send unsolicited direct messages to others who engage with our Channels.
- Impersonate anyone, use fake or deceptive accounts, or spread misinformation (including deceptive AI-generated content).
- Post spam, advertising or solicitations, infringe others’ intellectual property, or post anything unlawful.
This isn’t an exhaustive list — we may moderate or take other action in respect of any content that goes against the spirit of these Guidelines or our Terms of Trade.
4. How and when we moderate
We moderate and monitor our Channels periodically during standard business hours only — 9am to 5pm AWST, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
Most comments are published immediately and reviewed afterwards (post-moderation). This means content that breaches these Guidelines may sometimes appear — including outside business hours — before we can review and remove it. We make reasonable efforts to identify, moderate and remove breaching material as soon as practicable.
If you see a post or comment you believe breaches these Guidelines, please let us know via info@screenwest.com.au and we will address it.
We aim to respond to enquiries during business hours as soon as we can. Some enquiries may take longer or require a formal response, in which case we may direct you to the Contact Us page on our website.
5. If these Guidelines are not followed
Where these Guidelines are not followed, Screenwest may take any action it considers appropriate. Depending on the seriousness of the conduct and whether it is repeated, this may include, at Screenwest’s discretion:
- engaging with you or issuing a warning;
- hiding, editing or removing your content;
- muting, suspending or permanently blocking your access to our Channels;
- reporting your conduct to the relevant platform and/or to appropriate authorities;
- exercising any right or taking any action available to Screenwest under the Terms of Trade;
- restricting your participation in Screenwest events, Programs or activities; and/or
- taking any other action, including legal action.
Screenwest will act reasonably and proportionately to the seriousness of the conduct, and where appropriate and practicable will give you an opportunity to respond before taking more serious action. Nothing in these Guidelines limits any other right Screenwest has under the Terms of Trade, a funding agreement, Program Guidelines or at law.
6. Content you post
By posting on our Channels, you consent to Screenwest reproducing and publishing your posts, comments or materials (in whole or edited) on our Channels, website and in Screenwest publications.
Views expressed in comments are those of the author, not Screenwest. To the extent permitted by law, Screenwest accepts no liability arising from any user comment, or from its moderation or removal of, or failure to moderate or remove, any content.
7. Privacy
Any personal information you share through or in connection with our Channels is handled in accordance with the Screenwest Privacy Policy. You may choose to share contact details with us in a private message so we can help with an enquiry.
8. Other platforms’ terms
Our Channels are hosted by third-party platforms with their own terms and conditions. Please make sure you are familiar with, and comply with, the policies of each platform you use.
9. Changes to these Guidelines
Screenwest may vary these Guidelines at its discretion. The current version applies from its effective date and is published on the Screenwest website. Continued use of our Channels means you accept the current Guidelines.
