Updated Scripted Development Investment guidelines announced

In response to industry feedback and the changing needs of the local sector, Screenwest is pleased to announce it has revised its scripted development guidelines.

In March 2023, a two-part industry consultation process was announced asking industry to provide feedback on how scripted development was working in WA and how best Screenwest could evolve its programs and guidelines to support, attract and retain WA talent, increase crew capacity and grow WA production levels. Thank you to everyone who participated in the process.

Two revised scripted development funds are being rolled out – the Scripted Concept Development Fund and the Scripted Project Development Fund. These updated guidelines replace the Scripted Development Investment Fund.

The two updated scripted development funds focus on the development of scripted projects that have a connection to market and have a high potential of converting to production outcomes in Western Australia as well as support talent development pathways.

As part of the updated guidelines rollout, Screenwest are launching two new programs designed to facilitate connection to the market, with further details to be announced shortly.

Scripted Concept Development Fund

The purpose of this fund is to develop early-stage ideas and get projects ‘market ready’ by preparing materials that can be used to secure marketplace development funds.

  • Two funding rounds per year.
  • Funding up to $10,000 per application/ project.
  • Maximum cap per project $10,000.
  • Applicants may only submit one project per round.
  • At least one member of key creative team must have a relevant credit/s.

Scripted Project Development Fund

The purpose of the fund is to accelerate the development of projects which can demonstrate a strong pathway to audience and/or attract further investment.

  • Four funding rounds per year.
  • Funding up to $25,000 per application/ project.
  • Maximum cap per project $50,000.
  • At least one member of the key creative team must have a relevant credit/s OR an expression of interest from the marketplace.

Scripted Development Q&A session

Screenwest is inviting scripted practitioners to an information session with Screenwest staff, giving WA creatives the opportunity to hear a summary of both funds, unpack the updated guidelines and ask questions.

A livestream option is available to practitioners who live regionally or are unable to attend in person.

Date: Monday, 6 November 2023
Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Venue: The Backlot Perth, 21 Simpson Street, West Perth WA
Registration: Free, but registration is essential. Spaces are limited so please RSVP via Eventbrite.

The first rounds of the Scripted Concept Development Investment Fund and the Scripted Project Development Investment Fund will open later this year, with the updated guidelines available now on the Development Funding page of the Screenwest website.

Screenwest’s Matched Development Investment Fund and the Emergency Development Investment Fund guidelines remain unchanged.
