Screenwest Talent Accelerator Initiatives Set to Fast Track Western Australian Writer and Producer Careers
Applications for Screenwest’s coveted Bill Warnock Talent Accelerator and Producer Talent Accelerator are now open – set to fast track the careers of an early to mid-career Western Australian writer and producer.
Both initiatives offer a year-long skills development program designed to accelerate the recipient’s career by expanding their creative development skills, production knowledge and industry experience, growing their industry network and bridging the gap between ideas and the market.
The Bill Warnock Talent Accelerator initiative for early to mid-career Western Australian writers will offer a placement opportunity at Picking Scabs, a joint-venture production label between showrunner Samantha Strauss and See-Saw Films, known for projects including Netflix’s upcoming series, Grown Ups, adapted from the Marian Keyes’ novel and Apple Cider Vinegar.
The recipient will assist the creative development and delivery of Picking Scabs/See Saw Films’ projects as an active team member.
The Producer Talent Accelerator initiative for early to mid-career Western Australian producers will offer a placement opportunity with television production company Werner Film Productions, part of BBC Studios, known for producing award-winning series including The Newsreader, Knee High Spies and Goolagong.
The recipient will assist Werner Film Productions’ scripted drama projects in and entering production, while providing related administrative operational and development support across the company.
Both initiatives offer up to $100,000 in funding toward associated costs related to each placement including payment of award rates in line with the Screenwest Terms of Trade, as well as funding towards project development.
The Bill Warnock Talent Accelerator is named in honour of award-winning Western Australian playwright, screenwriter, novelist and poet Bill Warnock.
Kylie Warnock, on behalf of the extended Warnock family said, “Our family is deeply proud to see Bill’s passion for the arts live on through this programme. He always believed in the power of a great story and the unique voice of Western Australian creators. Supporting emerging state writers as they hone their craft and share their work feels like the truest way to carry his legacy forward.”
Applications close on Monday 26 October, 5pm AWST.
