Dates: Thursday, 6 November – Friday, 12 December 2025
Location: Fremantle
Production Company: Never Sleep Productions
The Unit Department is responsible for the Unit Base, the central hub for film productions while on location, and for servicing the needs of the production crew during filming. The Unit Department manages all the onsite logistics such as:
- Providing a central area for cast and crew to gather, take meal breaks, and store equipment
- Setting up and managing facilities for the serving of breakfast and lunch, including portable tea, coffee and water stations
- Providing shade and shelter for the cast and crew in adverse weather conditions
- Handling other logistical needs, like portable greenrooms for actors, costume, hair and makeup, tutoring etc.
The department is also responsible for supplying essential facilities on set (eg. Shade seating and amenities)
The successful candidate will complete six weeks as a paid Unit Assistant Attachment under the guidance of two Mentors – Unit Managers Mike Montague and Kylie Gair where you will:
- Observe and assist the Unit Department crew in their roles
- Gain knowledge of the role of the Unit department, and its function on a television production
- Develop an understanding of the demands and specific requirements of a location shoot
- Gain an understanding of how television production works, and how the Unit department works with other departments
- Build confidence on-set and become familiar with on-set unit operations
- Assist with the set up and pack down of unit bases including marquees, tables and chairs
- Assist with servicing on-set requirements
WA First Nations practitioners and WA practitioners from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
If the right candidate cannot be found for this role, the attachment may be offered in another department.
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will possess:
- Minimum C Class Driver’s Licence (manual)
- Experience in a range of industries/roles
- A can-do attitude
Special consideration will be given to applicants with:
- Hospitality/service experience
- Mechanical/electrical/trades experience
- Film/ television or related industry experience in a crew role
- Heavy vehicle licence (MR or Higher) / Towing experience
