Six Western Australian writers, directors and producers will have an opportunity to develop their television concepts as part of Screenwest’s Tele-Navigator initiative.
The Tele-Navigator initiative provides a pathway for local creatives, either in teams or as individuals, to participate in intensive workshops over four days in early September 2025 in Perth.
The program includes one-on-one development sessions with industry consultants and an ability to network with peers in the industry. Following the Tele-Navigator development workshop, up to two teams will receive development funding.
Writer/producer Cassandra Nguyen said last year’s Tele-Navigator workshops and development funding had been critical to her project Nha May.
Nha May is a multi-generational series that follows a Vietnamese-Australian family fighting for their business empire. Following the workshop, Cassandra received development funding and worked with story consultant Jane Allen (Janet King, In Our Blood).
“Tele-Navigator was instrumental in growing my series, facilitating creative collaborations and introducing me to high calibre consultants,” Cassandra said.
“My seed of an idea has now been strengthened and enriched, ready to go to market.”
Screenwest Head of Scripted, Tenille Kennedy, said: “The Tele-Navigator 2024 initiative partnered WA’s exceptional talent with esteemed Australian TV producers and achieved outstanding outcomes.
“We saw stories ranging from murder mysteries and coming of age to supernatural teen dramas and high-end ensembles. This year we are poised to build on that success and eagerly await a fresh round of new local projects uncovering WA’s most exciting new voices.”
Applications for the 2025 Tele-Navigator are now open. This is a highly sought-after and competitive round. You must be available to attend the workshops in person.
Applications close Monday, 7 July at 5pm AWST.
