Screenwest and NITV join forces on ‘Big Backyard Quiz’ to grow the WA First Nations screen sector

Screenwest and National Indigenous Television (NITV) are pleased to announce Big Backyard Quiz, a series full of games and quiz rounds exploring the people and history of Australia, has been greenlit for production in Western Australia following the success of its pilot in July 2024.

The 10-part cheeky quiz show will inject a flurry of excitement and economic activity into Perth in early 2025, as well as create jobs for WA crew and comedians vying for guest spots.

Screenwest and Lotterywest are strongly committed to growing the WA First Nations screen sector, supporting career pathways and professional skills development opportunities for local practitioners.

Thanks to Screenwest’s support, NITV will be offering a select number of guaranteed roles for Western Australian First Nations crew members.

“After a successful one-off debut on NITV earlier this year, TV’s boldest and Blak-est comedy entertainment show is back for a whole series of sizzling episodes. We’re thrilled to be working with Screenwest for a jam-packed season of Big Backyard Quiz, exploring our country and cultures through a Blak lens and showcasing Western Australian talent to the whole country.” said Tanya Denning-Orman, SBS Director of Indigenous Content.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with NITV to support WA First Nations screen practitioners from across the state, to gain invaluable experience working on this exciting new quiz show. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to support WA First Nations screen talent in building their careers in their home state.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.

The fun quiz show will entertain and educate audiences, with topics including people, land, food, music and sport, through an Indigenous lens.

Western Australian crew members interested in working on the series are invited to send their CV to Adam Manovic, Executive Producer, Big Backyard Quiz: adam.manovic@sbs.com.au.

Big Backyard Quiz will premiere on NITV and SBS in 2025.
