Dates: 9 June – 20 July 2025

Production Company: Smashing Films
The successful candidate will complete 6 consecutive weeks as a paid Edit Assistant Attachment under the expert guidance of Assistant Editor Andrew Stodart where you will:
- Gain hands on experience in professional post-production workflows for documentary
- Assist in managing picture and sound rushes, including importing and transcoding media using Da Vinci Resolve.
- Support the post-production team by:
- preparing and organising media for editors.
- Log footage, mark key moments, and assist in creating shot lists.
- Contribute to the early assembly of sequences and rough cuts under the guidance of editors.
- Participate in creative discussions, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative problem-solving with the editing team.
- Assist in the wrangling process on location and gain exposure to data management practices.
- Attend production and editorial meetings to observe workflows and contribute to team communication.
- Support annotated script creation, fact-checking, and legal documentation processes.
- Provide general assistance to senior crew members and contribute as a junior member of the post team.
- Develop a practical understanding of media management, editing processes, and storytelling techniques
- Improve technical editing capabilities and familiarity with key software, particularly Da Vinci Resolve and Avid Media Composer
- Build confidence working in both production office and edit suite settings
- Learn effective collaboration with editorial teams and understand the structure of post-production milestones
WA First Nations practitioners and WA practitioners from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Screenwest Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will:
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to building a career in post-production
- Proactive attitude and ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Basic competency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative creative environment
Special consideration will be given to applicants with:
- Some experience using Avid Media Composer and/or Da Vinci Resolve
- Prior exposure to editing or assistant editing roles (professional or self-initiated projects)
- Understanding of basic storytelling and editing principles
- Interest or experience in documentary production
- Familiarity with footage logging or metadata management
