Big Backyard Quiz is executive produced by Adam Manovic and Daniel Gallahar and was filmed with the support of Screenwest in Boorloo (Perth).
This season’s line-up of comedians as contestants includes Meyne Wyatt, Shari Sebbens, Matt Okine, Nina Oyama, Rhys Nicholson and Emma Holland, all in Episode 1.
This season also features Western Australian talents Ernie Dingo, Rove McManus, Tasma Walton, Peter Rowsthorn, Lewis Jetta, Courtney Ugle, Fabian Woods, Ash Penfold and Tom Forrest (aka Outback Tom).
Screenwest supported early-to-mid career Western Australian First Nations screen practitioners for Big Backyard Quiz through paid placements and attachment roles during production of the series.
Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest Chief Executive Officer, said: “The fun and energy of Big Backyard Quiz has been beneficial for the Western Australian First Nations screen practitioners involved in production, and we are so excited to see it air during NAIDOC Week.
“Not only did production of the series in Perth lead to greater visibility of our state, but Screenwest supported workforce and talent development of Western Australian First Nations crew.
“Screenwest and Lotterywest are dedicated to growing the Western Australian First Nations screen sector by supporting career pathways and offering professional skills development opportunities. Big Backyard Quiz helped several local First Nations practitioners build their careers in their home state.”
Big Backyard Quiz is part of NITV and SBS’s NAIDOC Week line-up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs, scheduled to air from July 6-13.
Tanya Denning-Orman, Director of Indigenous Content at SBS, said: “This year marks a significant milestone as we celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week, and also 50 years of SBS as a network. We are proud to honour the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures through programming across NITV and all SBS platforms, and reflect on the legacy of past leaders and draw inspiration from the next generation.”
