Applications open for Screen Industry Capacity Building Program

We have opened our Industry Capacity Building program, seeking bold ideas and proposals to fast-track growth in target sectors of the Western Australian screen industry.

Established in 2025, the program provides targeted grants to support the rising production demands of Western Australia’s growing screen industry.

Funding of up to $1 million is currently on offer to businesses in specific sectors of the screen industry including construction, rigging and lighting, as the demand for growth in these areas continues to rise.

Backed through the WA Government’s $11.2 million commitment to support workforce development and industry capacity under the WA Screen Industry Strategy, the program enables businesses to scale up and provide critical infrastructure and services that will build capacity in targeted areas of the screen industry.

Since its launch in 2025, funding of almost $3 million has supported 9 screen businesses across unit, special effects, props, catering, costume, lighting, camera rentals and production support facilities.

This year, cameras have been rolling on Breakers the first Netflix series to film in the state, and the Stan Original mystery-thriller Two Birds filming at the newly opened Perth Film Studios.

Local talent and stories continue to shine on the global stage. Whale Shark Jack directed by Western Australian directors Miranda and Khrob Edmonds is now streaming on Stan. We Bury The Dead from WA writer / director Zac Hilditch is now available on Prime and Apple TV+. Western Australian writer/director Miley Tunnecliffe and producer Kate Separovich’s feature film Proclivitas has recently dropped on Prime and Apple TV+, and Western Australian writer/director Zoe Pepper’s Birthright hit cinemas nationwide last month.

The state’s world-renowned documentary sector continues to shine with a slate of recent releases including Our Medicine S2 premiering on NITV/SBS and The Hospital: In the Deep End S2 premiering on SBS in March this year.
