“All the heat is here” Two Birds in Conversation
The producers and directors behind the Stan Original Series, Two Birds, joined us for an insightful conversation.
Cameras are rolling on the Stan Original Series Two Birds, filming on location in Kalgoorlie and at the new Perth Film Studios.
BAFTA and Peabody Award-winning Executive Producer Patrick Spence (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, A Spy Among Friends, Stan Original The Hack), Western Australian Producer Martha Coleman (Stan Original Scrublands: Silver) and directors James Griffiths (The Ballad of Wallis Island, Maternal, Bad Sisters) and Corrie Chen (Stan Original Bad Behaviour, The Artful Dodger, New Gold Mountain) took time out of production to connect with emerging and established filmmakers, sharing stories from their careers and reflecting on their experience bringing the production to life in Western Australia.
“I’m having such a good time here. I’m trying to find another show to come back,” said Executive Producer Patrick Spence. The team spoke fondly of their time so far in Western Australia – including their experience as the first project to shoot at Perth Film Studios, noting the sense of occasion at this milestone moment for the WA screen industry.
Director James Griffiths also acknowledged the “incredible talent” they’ve been working with, saying, “We’re in the middle of shooting, and the crew have been incredible. There’s such kindness and generosity amongst the crew.”
“All the heat is here,” said Director Corrie Chen on how Western Australia is fast becoming a hot production destination.
“Screenwest were extraordinary in the way the dealt with us, supported us and encouraged us in. They made it feel possible,” said Patrick Spence.
A huge thank you to the four panellists for their time and insightful discussion, moderated brilliantly by ABC’s Jo Trilling.
