CinefestOZ 2024 kicks off this month in WA’s South West

CinefestOZ has launched its 2024 program of films and events, with a slew of premieres and the awarding of their annual $100,000 Film Prize set to take place in Western Australia’s beautiful South West region from 31 August to 8 September.

This year’s festival features a lineup of more than 80 feature, documentary and short films, with WA family feature RUNT competing for CinefestOZ’s coveted $100,000 Film Prize alongside Oscar-winning Adam Elliot’s animated drama Memoir of a Snail, dark comedy Audrey by director Natalie Bailey, and thought-provoking First Nations horror The Moogai by director Jon Bell. The 2024 Film Prize winner will be announced at the festival’s gala event on Saturday, 7 September.

West Coast Visions-supported feature film He Ain’t Heavy will make its WA premiere at CinefestOZ before hitting Australian cinemas in October. Written and directed by David Vincent Smith and produced by Jess Parker, the screening follows the film’s Victorian premiere at MIFF and world premiere at Sydney Film Festival Festival.

West Coast Cops, a new WA documentary series from Prospero Productions, will also make its world premiere at the festival, with audiences getting exclusive early access to episodes 1 and 2.

The festival’s short film program features an eclectic lineup of Western Australian shorts, including Joan, The Roadhouse Blues, Farm Block A67 and Bird Drone, all supported through Screenwest’s Elevate initiative.

The festival’s two-day industry conference will run on 5 and 6 September, with the program of speakers to be announced shortly.

CinefestOZ 2024 runs from Saturday, 31 August to Sunday, 8 September in locations across Busselton, Margaret River, Bunbury and Augusta.

Tickets are on sale now at cinefestoz.com
