Synopsis

Sisters Ali and Mitch Torres delve into the local kriol cuisine that the families of Broome and surrounds are known for. Kriol Kitchen showcases 10 individuals and their family recipes ranging from chilli crab, blue bone soup, spicy fish patties, mushroom chicken with vermicelli, gubinge custard desert, bush fruit jams, ginger/garlic steamed barramundi, ikan billis chilli eggs, stir fry noodles with turtle, mussels and liji liji, kangaroo stew and satay with a spicy peanut sauce, clear mullet soup with black bean, raw fish in a vinaigrette, Chinese long soup….and those are just some of the family recipes that the local family cooks will share in this series of a blending of Asian influences with the local indigenous produce and seafood. Ali and mitch travel to nearby locations with some of the guests on Kriol Kitchen to catch their fresh ingredients, others go to their local supermarkets that provide the ingredients that will give their dishes the zing that set them apart from other families. It is no secret that many families are proud of their ‘secret’ recipes but some of our families feel it is time to celebrate and share their wonderful gastronomic dishes with the world.
