Synopsis

Over the course of the series of Gallery of Everyday Things, you will discover how the most innocuous objects from daily life have fascinating stories – the humble bicycle, your favourite piece of underwear, the nutmeg you sprinkle on your eggnog – such extraordinary things have been instrumental in building empires, sparking social revolutions and sometimes been just plain fun. Who would have thought that a girdle would become an essential part of the American space programme? And what did prehistoric man do about dental hygiene before the toothbrush came along?
