Dates: Monday, 18 May 2026 – Friday, 11 September 2026
Location: Remote working from home (WFH) arrangement for Western Australia based practitioners
Production Company: League of Geeks, based in Melbourne
This four-month QA placement offers a structured entry point into professional game quality assurance, aligned with the objectives of a Practitioner building a career in game development. By participating in guided QA work across two live titles and one title currently in development, the Practitioner will gain firsthand experience of the distinct demands present at different stages of the development lifecycle.
Working across multiple projects simultaneously exposes them to varied genres, platforms, and audience expectations, developing the adaptability and contextual judgement that distinguishes a capable QA professional, and game developer.
The placement is further strengthened by direct mentorship from a Production Director with over ten years of game development experience, ensuring the Practitioner receives guided, industry-grounded feedback on their work and professional development.
Beyond this primary mentorship, daily collaboration within a world-class development team provides organic exposure to the full spectrum of disciplines building the cross-functional communication skills and studio literacy essential for a sustainable career in games..
Responsibilities
Under the expert guidance of Production Director Ally McLean Hennessy you will be tasked with:
- Exploratory Testing: The Practitioner will develop the ability to perform unscripted, intuition-driven testing to identify defects that structured test cases may not cover, building a critical investigative mindset.
- Test Plan Creation and Documentation: The Practitioner will learn to design, write, and maintain comprehensive test plans that clearly define scope, objectives, test cases, entry and exit criteria, and risk areas for a given build or feature.
- Bug Reporting and Bug Lifecycle Management: The Practitioner will become proficient in writing clear, reproducible, and actionable bug reports using industry-standard tools (Jira), and will understand how defects are triaged, prioritised, assigned, and verified through to resolution.
- Regression Testing: The Practitioner will gain experience in systematically re-testing previously validated features following code changes, patches, or new builds to ensure existing functionality has not been compromised.
- Project Management and Collaboration Tools: The Practitioner will build working proficiency in Jira for issue tracking and sprint workflows, and Miro for visual test planning, mapping, and collaborative documentation within a production pipeline.
- Cross-Functional Communication: The Practitioner will develop the ability to communicate effectively with designers, engineers, artists, and producers, translating QA findings into language appropriate for each discipline and contributing constructively in team discussions.
- Live Service QA Practices: Through supporting two live titles, the Practitioner will gain exposure to the specific pressures and processes of live operations QA, including hotfix validation, update verification, and prioritisation under time-sensitive conditions.
- Smoke Testing and Build Verification: The Practitioner will learn to perform rapid, high-level checks on new builds to confirm core functionality before deeper testing begins, developing judgement about critical-path features.
- Risk-Based Testing Prioritisation: The Practitioner will develop the ability to assess which areas of a build carry the highest risk and allocate testing effort accordingly, a skill essential for working within real production timelines.
