A paid six-week Story Assistant attachment is available for a WA screen practitioner through the Screenwest BTL Crew Capacity Program. The attachment will be working on a documentary series.

Responsibilities
Under the expert guidance of Series Producer Mike Hoath, you will:
- Support the research and identification of potential contributors, story ideas and new mineral specimens, compiling basic background information and notes for the Series Producer.
- Assist with the preparation and development of story briefs, outlines, and background research under the guidance of the Series Producer.
- Maintain clear communication with the production team and contributors, helping to coordinate information as required.
- Assist with arranging and supporting contributor interviews and briefings when needed.
- Help manage and process contributor releases, clearances, and related documentation, supporting production where required.
- Keep track of story developments and updates throughout the production process, ensuring relevant team members are informed.
- Provide general story and production support and carry out other reasonable tasks as requested by the Series Producer.
WA First Nations practitioners and WA practitioners from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
If the right candidate cannot be found for this role, the attachment may be offered in another department.
The production company will select the successful applicant. Screenwest provides administration support.
Key Requirements
In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements in the BTL Crew Capacity Program – Applicant Guidelines and Screenwest Terms of Trade, you must have:
- Curiosity and willingness to learn – an interest in storytelling and documentary production, with a proactive approach to building knowledge.
- Good communication skills – able to share information clearly and professionally with team members and contributors.
- Organisation and attention to detail – keeping track of tasks, notes, and documentation accurately.
- Positive attitude and reliability – showing up prepared, following through on tasks, and being someone the team can depend on.
- Teamwork and collaboration – working well with others and being open to feedback and guidance.
- Initiative – taking small steps independently and supporting the team where needed.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have experience in:
- Screenwriting;
- Documentary filmmaking.
