Post-Production Researcher Attachment opportunity on upcoming factual series

Screenwest is pleased to announce a paid Post-Production Researcher Attachment is available for a Western Australian screen practitioner through the Screenwest Crew Attachment Program on an upcoming factual series based in Perth. Applications close Tuesday 4 June 2025 at 5:00pm AWST.

The successful candidate will complete 6 consecutive weeks as a paid Post-Production Researcher Attachment under the expert guidance of Series Producer Anthony Barwell where you will:

• Develop advanced factual research skills, particularly in the verification of medical and scientific content.
• Conduct in-depth medical factual research to support the series in post-production
• Assist with the creation of annotated scripts, ensuring all scientific and medical references are accurate and clearly sourced.
• Research and manage archive material relevant to health, science, and personal narratives, including securing pathways to rights where necessary
• Liaise with the documentary participants and editorial team to clarify complex information and assist in scripting accurate, accessible explanations
• Support the delivery of post-production documents, such as fact-check logs and clearance reports.
• Attend editorial meetings and provide research insights that enhance storytelling clarity and accuracy.
• Gain hands-on experience supporting legal and editorial compliance in documentary post-production.
• Learn how to effectively source, track, and document research in line with industry standards for broadcast delivery.
• Build an understanding of how research contributes to both creative storytelling and ethical responsibilities in factual content.
• Strengthen communication and collaboration skills within a post-production editorial team

WA First Nations practitioners and WA practitioners from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Screenwest Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will:

• Excellent research and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail
• Clear and confident written communication
• Demonstrated interest in factual storytelling, particularly in the health and science space
• Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Commitment to developing a career in documentary production, research, or editorial roles.

Special consideration will be given to applicants with:

• Background or experience in health, science communication, journalism, or academic research.
• Familiarity with annotated scripts, compliance documentation, or fact-checking in a screen content context.
• Understanding of archival research and rights management.
• Prior experience working on factual or documentary content.
• Awareness of ethical standards in presenting medical or scientific information to general audiences.
