WA documentary series ‘Junior Doctors Down Under’ now streaming on SBS on Demand
Screenwest is pleased to announce Western Australian documentary series Junior Doctors Down Under, produced by Prospero Productions, is now streaming on SBS on Demand following its broadcast premiere last week.
Junior Doctors are the front-line medics of any hospital. Every year hundreds are lured down under from the UK and Ireland. With health care systems around the world under increasing strain, Australian hospitals are in the fight to attract this next generation of doctors. But in return they must sign up for something they’ve never done before – the Emergency Department.
These young doctors in training are the specialists and surgeons of tomorrow, but not until they pass their toughest test: treating life and death trauma far away from loved ones. If they thought they were coming for a holiday, they were wrong.
Junior Doctors Down Under is narrated by award-winning Australian actor Marta Dusseldorp and executive produced by Prospero Productions’ owner and managing director Julia Redwood, along with Jules Fortune. Prospero’s Rachael Kelly produces with Eliot Buchan serving as Series Producer.
The eight-part series was filmed entirely in Perth, with the filmmaking team gaining access to the Emergency Departments at Joondalup Health Campus and Fiona Stanley Hospital.
“This is a real ‘fish out of water’ story. Young doctors, fresh off the plane, landing in a high stress hospital department they had never experienced before! The doctors were all so generous with their time and really brave in letting us in to their stories.” said Julia Redwood, Executive Producer and Managing Director, Prospero Productions.
The Prospero team will also be premiering their new observational documentary series West Coast Cops at CinefestOZ on Saturday, 7 September in Busselton. Tickets available here.
Junior Doctors Down Under airs on SBS and SBS on Demand on Thursdays at 8.25pm.
Production Credit: Junior Doctors Down Under is produced by Prospero Productions for Channel 5 with principal production funding from Screenwest and Lotterywest. International sales are being handled by Abacus Media.
